In 1869, Rev. J.E. Whalen, was a circuit rider for the Methodist Church. He conducted services for the people living in the area of Deckerville. In 1873, Rev AJ Holmes became the first Methodist Minister of the area.. Services were held in the local school of the time. As population increased in the area along with the membership of the congregation, it became apparent that a permanent structure was going to need to be built. The new church was built in Downington, In 1907, the church was moved to its present location in Deckerville where a parsonage was erected in the same year. At the time, the minister not only served the Deckerville Church, but also served in Cedardale, Maple Grove, Mt. Zion, and Minden City. The church has seen many remodeling and structural changes over the years. Today only Deckerville and MInden City churches still reside.
